Perspectives

Summaries interpret each candidate's statements. They aren't the candidates' own words and haven't been endorsed by them. How perspectives are summarized

Not addressed in their statement: Candidates wrote their statements for the Law Society's election site, not in answer to these topics. A statement that doesn't address a topic says nothing about the candidate's views or experience on it.

Pathways

Pathways to the Profession

Values mentorship, encouragement and practical guidance for newer members as a way to strengthen individual careers and the profession.

Addressed
  • Early career support
Evidence and limits

Addressed · Policy principle. A relevant principle, priority, issue recognition or reported practice is directly expressed. This does not necessarily mean a specific policy change is proposed.

I believe mentorship is one of the most meaningful ways lawyers can support one another. The guidance, encouragement, and practical insight we provide to newer members of the profession strengthen not only individual careers but also the profession as a whole.

The value of mentoring newer members is explicitly stated rather than inferred solely from a mentoring role.

What this doesn't show

  • No change to licensing, qualification routes, legal-education capacity or professional roles is proposed.

This site is not affiliated with the Law Society of Alberta and is not endorsed by the Law Society or by any candidate.

The role of a Bencher is not to represent or advocate for particular interests, constituencies, or causes, but to exercise independent judgment in carrying out the Law Society’s public-interest mandate.

It is not the intent or objective of this site to suggest that candidates are making representations or promises about how they would approach a given topic as an elected Bencher. Our intent is to invite them to speak to their experience, interest and perspective as it relates to topics on which they may reasonably be expected to engage as an elected Bencher, as that may or may not reflect specific competencies in those areas.
